BREAKING THE CHAINS

WHY

This question strikes at the heart of our journey: everyone, whether single, as a couple, or in a family, has their own set of limitations—be they iron shackles, handcuffs, or manacles. Part of our mission is to shed these restraints.

As we faced the realization that our current life couldn't continue as it was, the pull toward freedom and a new way of living grew stronger each day. It was time to break free from our comfort zone and, most importantly, BREAK THE CHAINS.

WHEN

After years of being engulfed by the demands of my job, surroundings, and societal expectations, it became crystal clear in 2016 that only I had the power to make a change. Fueled by a lasting dream from my travels across Europe and North Africa, my sights were set on South America, the Pan American Highway, and perhaps even the entire globe.

In the summer of 2016, I rolled up my sleeves and began transforming HARDY, my Land Rover Discovery 300tdi, into a mobile home—a base for my new life.

By October 2016, the adventure officially began.

WHERE

After bidding farewell to my loved ones, leaving behind northern Germany, and saying goodbye to many cherished habits and routines, we set our sights on France and the port of Calais—our gateway to the land of my ancestors, Wales.

There, I spent quality time with family and completed the final touches on Hardy, our trusted Land Rover.

Once Hardy was set for the adventure of a lifetime, he was shipped off to Montevideo, while I journeyed to Brazil to meet up with my best friend and son. They would join me for the initial stages of this epic trip.

In December 2016, I touched down in Montevideo. Just two weeks later, Hardy arrived, ready to tackle the road ahead. Uruguay, our entry point, welcomed us as we embarked on a thrilling exploration of South America.

FREE OVERLANDERS

Overlanding describes self-reliant adventure travel to remote destinations where the journey is the primary goal. Typically, but not exclusively, accommodated by mechanized off-highway capable transport (from bicycles to trucks) where the principal form of lodging is camping; often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years) and often spanning international boundaries. While expedition is defined as a journey with a purpose, overlanding sees the journey as the purpose.

Overlanding is about exploration, rather than conquering obstacles. While the roads and trails we travel might be rough or technically challenging, they are the means to an end, not the goal itself. The goal is to see and learn about our world, whether on a weekend trip 100 miles from home or a 10,000-mile expedition across another continent. The vehicle and equipment can be simple or extravagant - they, too, are simply means to an end. History, wildlife, culture, scenery, self-sufficiency - these are the rewards of Overlanding.

Take all this above and combine it with Freedom, liberation, expression, and individualism You are free from your confinements and you can do what you want. You can take control of your life!
Leave the treadmill, your comfort zone, stop finding excuses such as waiting for the perfect timing, having sufficient funding, can't leave my cat, all these are prime examples of what we convince ourselves every day. It's not easy and you will need time to adapt, but you won't regret it!
What are you waiting for, step out, and join us, by BREAKING THE CHAINS!

Freedom. Can you taste it? What greater prize is there than freedom? Above all else, above money, nice cars, excelling in sports, people tend to value freedom. But are you really free?

“No price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”
